Our Story
Mimochai is an independent creative studio based in Los Angeles led by author-illustrator Mimi Chao.
Pursuing creativity was strongly discouraged when Mimi was growing up, so she started her career as a corporate lawyer. After four years at a big law firm, she took a leap of faith to reconnect with a more true and meaningful life. She eventually found her way back to her childhood dream of making art and stories.
That's why we're passionate about encouraging creativity and mindfulness in all ages.
At A Glance
AAPI Woman-Owned: Mimi is Chinese-American, born & raised in LA, influenced by both traditional East Asian artists and California midcentury modern designers.
Organic Growth: We began on Instagram and our first book was thanks to a successful Kickstarter backed by our followers. We're now in over a hundred beautiful stores worldwide and growing everyday.
Inspiration: We are inspired by stories like The Little Prince and the Chronicles of Narnia. Our picture books are made for all ages.
